2022-23 Red Wings Training Camp

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Red Wings hockey is finally back as players and coaches return to training camp at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City.

Running his first-ever NHL camp, Head Coach, Derek Lalonde, feels confident in his new team’s performance in camp. “We’ve talked this to death and preparing we just want to see it translate on the ice,” he said. “For the most part, I thought it was a pretty good day.”

While Detroit continues to establish their new identity, Lalonde emphasizes the importance of chemistry for the Red Wings. “We tried to work very hard as staff this summer on getting to know the group,” he said. “I think those relationships are vitally important.”

The most important relationship Lalonde wanted to build was with Captain, Dylan Larkin. Larkin believes the unfamiliarity between coaches and players could be beneficial for Detroit. “There’s been great communication,” he said. “He’s made a great impression on the guys.”

Aside from the return of Larkin, there’s some fresh faces on the Red Wings roster. With the addition of David Perron, the forward is excited for a new opportunity in Detroit. “An Original Six team,” he said. “For me, I never had the chance throughout all the teams and opportunities that I had in my career so far.”

The Red Wings’ season kicks off with their preseason opener at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday, September 27 at 7 p.m.
