Alpena Community College hosted a career and technical education signing day for Alpena high school students that intend to pursue further education on their campus.

“Career and tech signing day is meant to mimic the athletic signing days. Instead of celebrating someone’s athletic prowess, which is also admirable. We’re here to celebrate kids, showing off in the classroom and their choice that they’re making to proceed towards, career oriented training and education going forward, so that they are ready to make a nice living in the workforce when they’re finished” said Lee Fitzpatrick, Director of communications for Alpena public schools.

The signing day was led by NC3, which is a credentialing organization that helps students get credentials that will be beneficial in the workplace.

“I think it’s great. ACC is a wonderful partner for us. And so the, the partnership between Alpena public schools and ACC is one that benefits our kids and our community. And so we’re very happy to, help kids. We’ve intentionally built a pathway for kids between our high school and these career programs directly in the ACC, and so they are a wonderful partner, and we’re glad to hand these kids off and let them move towards their next steps in their career” said Fitzpatrick.

Each student that was involved in career and tech signing day was awarded a two hundred and fifty dollar scholarship towards their education.

“We want people to understand that there’s a pathway for every student. And so, this is a different pathway for some. And, it’s one that allows them to explore something that really interests them instead of things that are more general and also moves them toward the ability to make a living and contribute to their community and those are both great things” said Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick said he is proud of all the students and reminds them that they have a support system of family, friends and educators that support their decision to pursue a technical career.
