ACC Men’s Basketball to Host First Playoff Game in 25 Years

ALPENA, MI – The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team has secured a spot in the postseason. For the first time in 25 years, the Lumberjacks will finally have the homecourt advantage as they host the first round of playoffs.

The numbers don’t lie regarding this year’s ACC men’s basketball team. The Lumberjacks finished with a record of 9-15 and a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Northern Conference record of 7-7.

This season’s team is one of the most competitive in ACC’s recent history. After a long wait, Park Arena will finally host a postseason game. “This team is a lot different than the other teams,” said Head Coach Bobby Allen. “This team has a lot of talent and if they use it together, I think we’ll go a long ways.”

The Lumberjacks are fired up heading into playoffs knowing the atmosphere will give them the home-court advantage. “It’s going to be a good atmosphere,” said freshman guard Eli Hennings. “This is the first time in 25 years we’ve hosted a playoff so it should be a good game.”

ACC is the higher seed in their matchup with Muskegon. Additionally, the Lumberjacks have beaten the Jayhawks twice this season. “I expect them to come, play harder and give it their all,” said freshman center Terence Burton. “I expect us to play harder, give it our all and leave it all on the floor.”

Aside from their opening game, ACC aims to take their playoff run further than Park Arena. “We want to make a little bit more noise than just the first home game,” said sophomore guard Daddy Hill. “We want to see how far we can really go.”

The Lumberjacks are set to host the Jayhawks on March 5 at 7 p.m.
