Hillman’s High School Band Prepares For Upcoming Performance At Detroit Red Wings Game

On April 15th, the Hillman high school band is performing live at the Detroit Red Wings game.

“So we’re gonna be playing at the Red Wings game on April 15th and they contacted us to see if we could come down and play the National Anthem, but it’s hard getting a group this size on the ice, so we’re gonna be playing pregame out in Chevy plaza while the audience is coming in to watch the game” said Ben Witter, Hillman High School music teacher.

The Hillman band has previously performed on a big stage in Detroit when they played the national anthem at a Detroit Tigers game.

“I am ecstatic. I didn’t think that it was happening. One day he just came in and said we’re doing it and I was like okay” said John Ruthko, a Hillman High school band student.

“I’m feeling really good actually. I’m feeling confident about what we can produce and what we can put out for the game. I believe we have it in us because we played at the tigers game” said Elijah Schulze, another Hillman high school band student.

The students will also be playing the National Anthem at the Detroit Tigers game on May 1st.

“I’m really thankful for the community and their support and the only reason we’re able to do the things we’re doing is just the support of the administration and the community as a whole” said Witter.
