Wildcats advance to semifinals as they defeat Mount Pleasant 5-0

ALPENA, Mich. — Head Coach Tim Storch captures his first postseason victory as the Alpena Wildcats shut out Mount Pleasant 5-0. With the victory, Alpena has earned its 16th win of the season, tying a program record for wins in a season.

The Oilers didn’t have an answer as the Wildcats controlled the majority of the match. Grant Botha, Caleb Zaborney, Craig Tagliarini, Kyle Barbeau, and Ivo Arvidsson-Ullberg each contributed with a goal for Alpena. Arvidsson-Ullberg now has 25 goals on the season. The striker from Sweden is a goal and an assist away from tying the school record.

Alpena’s next game is Tuesday at 6 p.m. as they host Bay City John Glenn in the district semifinals. These two teams already played each other this season as Alpena was able to shutout John Glenn 1-0.

The winner of Tuesday’s match will advance to the district championship match next Saturday against the winner of Cadillac and Gaylord.
