Township Fire Department Receives Approval for Vehicle Enhancements

The Alpena Charter Township board held a meeting Wednesday, and the fire department had their fair share of items on the agenda.

A few of those items included getting approval for accessories that will go on one of their response vehicles, approval for one of their members starting volunteer EMT training, as well as ordering new response vehicles. The township fire department has received approval for two new 2023 Ford F–150s. They struggled for a year to receive that approval but it finally passed at the meeting.

“I’m very happy with that turnout today, and we look forward to sometime getting our new rescue pickups that we can better respond to area residents,” said Fire Chief Mark Hansen.

Another item on the agenda was the approval of a replacement for their air cylinder that fills their rapid deployment craft for ice rescue.

“For us to be better prepared for that, we want to make sure all of our ice rescue supplies are up to standard,” Hansen said. “Everybody’s been trained, re–brought into training for the new season, if you will, just freshen everybody’s memory, we just conducted that training last week.”

Hansen said to take caution when heading onto the ice this winter.
