United Way of Alpena Receives Grant From Consumers Energy Foundation To Help With Food Insecurity

United Way of Northeast Michigan received a $4,000 grant from the Consumers Energy foundation.

“In every year we partnered with Consumers Energy foundation, and they’ve supported activities that we have in our community. Two years ago, they gave us, a grant of $750. SO that allowed us to expand the Dolly Parton Imagination library into Presque Isle County. And then the last two years, they’ve increased that grant to help meet basic needs in our community” said Joe Gentry, Executive Director, United Way of Northeast Michigan.

United way is very active in the community and its surrounding areas, they have sponsored pop up pantries in the western half of Alcona, downtown Harrisville and they’ve sponsored a senior center volunteer group in Lincoln.

“This grant of the $4,000 that we got, earlier this year helped us to continue that support of, meeting food insecurity needs in Alcona. And also, it came just on the heels of the DPI closure, which allowed us to provide food cards for DPI employees here in Alpena” said Gentry.

With this grant, Gentry plans to continue supporting the needs of the community.
