Lieutenant Stuart Sharpe of the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team discusses the drug problems in Alpena. Here in Beautiful Alpena, it may be hard to believe that there is a drug issue. “Our area is not unique, and it is not different than the rest of the state of Michigan or the United States; we have a significant problem with drugs,” Lieutenant Stuart Sharp of the Michigan State Police said. In just this last year, forty-six million Americans have experienced a substance abuse disorder. “The misuse of narcotics impacts our community as a whole, stretches the resources of DHHS, Catholic Human Services, our local hospital and law enforcement,” said Sharp.

Approximately fifty-nine million people in America have used an illicit drug or misused a prescription drug in the last year. “We need to be cognizant of our loved ones, if we see that they’re struggling. There are resources available to get them help,” Sharp said. If you or your loved one is suffering from a substance abuse disorder, it is crucial that you find a good recovery community. “Our website www.huntteam.net has some of those resources. The Michigan State Police also has the Angel program and those that are in need can come to the Michigan State Police post and ask for help with treatment and helping out.” He said.
