Third Annual Mother’s Day Drag Show Brings Good and Bad Reaction from Alpena Residents

The third annual Mother’s Day Drag show at the Black Sheep Pub brings different reactions from residents in Alpena. “We have our third annual drag queen show this Mother’s Day weekend. So, we have a show on Saturday night at 9pm and then we have a show on Sunday at 1pm,” Owner of Black Sheep Pub, Kris Conger said.

At the Black Sheep, they practice inclusion. “Not all LGBTQ people come to these drag queen shows. We’ve had 21 and older, but we’ve had older people, husbands and wives and a bunch of girls, and we just sing and build everybody up and just have a great time. You know, I have good and bad reception from this, and if you don’t like it, you don’t need to come, but you’re missing out on a good time.” Suicide rates in the LGBTQ community are higher than your average U.S. citizen, “But we do have a large LGBTQ community in Alpena. Black Sheep Pub is one of the safe places for them to go. We have a few other bars, and you know, we accept all”
