Alpena welcomes new North Stars Hockey Club

Alpena's new hockey franchise, the North Stars

Alpena, Mich. — Alpena will welcome a new hockey franchise this coming winter. The Alpena North Stars Hockey Club will play at Northern Lights Arena in the Interstate Hockey League, which is a Senior AA Semi-Pro type league based in Michigan. The team will be led by General Manager Myles Grix, a former ACC Lumberjack hockey player.

Skaters will play 32 regular season games that span from October-March, playoffs in April. All games will be played on the weekend for fans to enjoy.

The IHL will hold tryouts on July 13th at The Summit in Lansing. Sign-up begins at 8 a.m., and then athletes will play two full games. Team rosters will be announced later that day. The tryouts are covered by the IHL’s $100 registration fee. Athletes can register here: IHL registration link. The North Stars start their inaugural season on October 5th at 7:30 p.m. against the Traverse City Gulls at Centre Ice Arena. Then, the Gulls will travel to Northern Lights Arena in Alpena on October 6th for a 1 p.m. puck drop.
