Alcona multisport athlete Rachel Layton signs with Lumberjacks

ALCONA, Mich. — Throughout Rachel Layton’s high school athletic career, playing softball and basketball were her go-to sports. Two sports where she was a big asset for both Alcona teams, especially basketball. This past season, Layton helped the Tigers capture their first district crown since 2018.

However, she didn’t want the road to end after high school and wanted to take her softball and basketball talents to the next level. and so she did. Layton signed her National Letter of Intent on Thursday to play both softball and basketball at Alpena Community College.

“I’ve been playing sports since I started walking,” said Layton. “I’ve always had a fire in me and I’m very competitive.”

In the classroom, Layton plans on getting her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
