Red Wings at 2022 NHL Prospect Tournament

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – As the hockey season quickly approaches, the 2022 NHL Prospect Tournament, featuring the Detroit Red Wings, wrapped up at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City.

The tournament hosted five different teams full of hopeful prospects competing in round-robin action, with each team playing either three or four games. As the Red Wings prospects fight for a spot on the roster, Detroit’s staff has made their expectations clear. Left wing, Elmer Soderblom, understands what Detroit is searching for. “Maybe add some more physicality,” he said. “I think that’s what I have to do to be able to take a spot.”

Additionally, the tournament gives young players a chance to experience NHL level of play. Center, Amadeus Lombardi, is taking in all the knowledge available. “It’s a learning experience,” he said. “It’s a lot more physical and a lot more responsible.”

Alongside Detroit’s younger players, familiar and more experienced players like 2021 first-round pick, Sebastian Cossa, was confident defending the Red Wings’ goal. “This weekend I played some composed hockey,” he said. “I thought I did a pretty good job composing myself.”

The Red Wings finished the NHL Prospect Tournament with a 2-1 record. The Red Wings Training Camp kicks off on Thursday, September 22 at 8:30 a.m.
