Members of the VFW post #2496 in Alpena, drove around town to spread awareness about the dangers of the agent orange compound

“We’re doing research for agent orange, so we’re collecting money for all the research and help that’s going out and see if they can get a cure for this nasty disease” said Steve Lawver, an agent orange rider.

The VFW post #2496 is an organization that provides veterans an opportunity to interact with each other, they also assist in raising money to support children with disabilities, those experiencing homelessness and people that may have been impacted by the agent orange chemical.

“It’s a chemical they sprayed over Nam to kill vegetation. You know, and they just, it rained on them, and they just poured it on them, they didn’t care. So now, it goes for generations. Those are your kids, they get it and it keeps going on, so they just got to keep it up and get rid of it” said Lawver.

The agent orange riders take multiple rides throughout the year and are planning their next one at Sleeping Bear Dunes, the first weekend in June. To help contribute to their research for agent orange or make a donation, you can call 989-590-3906.
