Alpena suffers first loss of the season to Ogemaw Heights

ALPENA, Mich. — Going into this season, Alpena boys soccer coach Tim Storch knew their were going to be, “some bumps along the way.” On Wednesday, that turned out to be the case. Even though Alpena had home-field advantage, they couldn’t find the back of the net as they suffered their first loss of the season to Ogemaw Heights (1-0). Not only that, but the Falcons outshot the Wildcats 8-6 on the night.

“The Falcons were a more polished team,” said Storch. “They were more physical in a smart way, while we got physical in a stupid way by committing fouls. They won 50-50 battles and they were just a more polished team.”

After a scoreless first half, the Falcons hit the ground running. Less then a minute into the second half, Lucas Courtemanche was able to to put the Falcons on the board. The junior got the shot to go inside the box off a free kick, putting a ball past goalkeeper Mason Bray.

With the loss, Alpena now drops to 3-1-1 on the season. The Wildcats will host Sault Ste. Marie on Friday at 5 p.m.
