Rogers City Rolls against Hillman

Rogers City's Taylor Fleming goes up and gets the kill against the Hillman Tigers.

HILLMAN — The Rogers City volleyball team is one of the most talented in our area. Senior Middle and Lake Shore State University verbal commit Taylor Fleming is a big reason why they’ve done so well, but it’s not just about her. The Hurons play together and emphasize the team element of the game.

Hillman last played against Atlanta on Tuesday. They won in straight sets and didn’t allow the Huskies to score more than 15 points in any of their sets.

Fleming and the rest of the Hurons came out strong in the first set. She showed her dominance early with a huge kill for the Huron’s 4th point. Makenna Grulke answered the very next point: stuffing Fleming and keeping Rogers City from gaining too much momentum. The Hurons still won the first set 25-18.

Hillman played exceptionally well in the second set. They were led by Emilee Noffze, Brooke Grulk, and Makenna Grulke. Noffze and Fleming went kill for kill in the middle of the set. Hillman gets the win in the second set 25-21.

The Tigers fought well in the 3rd and 4th sets but ultimately ended up falling to the Hurons in 4 sets. Hillman Head coach Kimberly Weiland was proud of her team’s performance tonight and praised them for how well they played against the tough Rogers City team.

The Hurons play again on Saturday in St. Louis for a tournament.
