Oscoda’s 4th Annual Blue and White Scrimmage helps coaches make adjustments

Oscoda senior Brayden Mallak warms up at Blue and White scrimmage.

OSCODA, Mich. — The Oscoda Owls hosted their fourth annual Blue and White Scrimmage where fans got to eat, meet and greet the team. Like 2018, the Owls hosted the Ubly Bearcats and Bad Axe Hatchets. Both class C schools provide good competition, especially Ubly who has advanced to playoffs 16 of their last 18 years.

Last season Oscoda finished the year (8-2) overall, losing their only regular season game during week one against Houghton Lake. That’s the same team the Owls host week one in 2019, so they will have to bring their best. The scrimmage helped the Owls learn what adjustments they need to make.

“We’re going to work on quite a bit of things as far as our blocking assignments,” said Head Coach Mark Whitley. “We’re not a super young team, so we need to make blocks and go to where your supposed to be. I think the adjustments that we need to make are fixable. Their minor.”

The Owls and Bobcats will square off on Thursday, August 29 at 7 p.m.
