Cooler Tuesday on the way; Rainy Wednesday

High temperatures today reached 87 degrees in Alpena, 92 degrees in Saginaw, Mich., but only 79 degrees in Marquette, Mich. A weak cold front is moving across Northern Michigan this evening and it will bring in a more refreshing air mass. Those cooler temperatures that were felt in the Upper Peninsula today will be in our area Tuesday.

Elsewhere, two tropical cyclones are affecting the Gulf of Mexico region this week. Tropical Storm Marco made landfall on the Louisiana coast earlier this evening. Marco will travel westward, through southern Louisiana and into eastern Texas.

Tropical storm Laura will be moving toward the northwest and intensifying to a category 2 hurricane by Wednesday. Laura will likely make landfall in Louisiana or far southeastern Texas late Wednesday/early Thursday; Tropical Storm Watches and Hurricane Watches are in effect for those areas. Beyond that, Laura will track to the northeast and then its forecast path curves eastward, taking Laura into the mid-Atlantic Saturday while weakening to a post-tropical depression.

Around Northeast Michigan — Tuesday: Partly cloudy. Predawn temperatures will be in the lower 60s. Late-morning temperatures will rise to the lower 70s. Afternoon highs will reach about 80 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the lower 70s.

Wednesday: A storm system from the Pacific Northwest will move into our area, bringing rain and thunderstorms. The highest chances of rain will be in the afternoon and evening. Early-morning lows will be in the upper 50s. Afternoon highs will be close to 74 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the upper 60s.

Thursday: Scattered showers are possible early, then clearing. Predawn lows will be in the middle 60s. Temperatures will rise to the lower 70s in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to 80 degrees. Early-evening temperatures will be in the lower 70s.
