Bay Athletic Club Starts “Thinner Winner” Competition

When the Bay Athletic Club began their Thinner Winner Competition in 2009, they had no idea it would grow and change people’s lives the way it did.

Thinner Winner is a five–week personal health journey where people partner up and hold each other accountable in maintaining healthy diet and exercise regiments.

“The goal of the competition is for people to partner up with friends, family, or coworkers to just create some healthier habits, get on a better path, and have fun together doing some fitness,” said Trina Gray, owner of the Bay Athletic Club in Alpena.

The accountability element is crucial to the competition, which is why the Bay Athletic Club has people partner up. It’s also just easier and more fun to create healthy habits with someone else.

“Being healthy is kind of hard when you’re doing it on your own,” said Gray. “It is a lot easier to choose healthy habits like working out, drinking water, eating healthy, when people in your life are making the same choices, so the team aspect of Thinner Winner is really honestly the most important piece.”

There have been incredible success stories with Thinner Winner in the past. Erin Andrews lost 50 pounds in the competition and went on to become a group fitness instructor and trainer, and Sarah Wetherhult embarked on a fitness journey starting with Thinner Winner, losing 180 pounds over a few years in the process.

“A small, five–week competition might look like something insignificant, but it can have significant impact on the future of your life,” said Gray.

Thinner Winner helps people develop habits not just for the five weeks, but for life.

“After five weeks of thinking about this, talking about it, cheering each other on and doing it, we see and we believe that people are more likely to carry those results on in the months to come,” said Gray.

Thinner Winner begins on Saturday, September 30, and anyone interested in getting involved is encouraged to contact Bay Athletic Club.
