Hurons strong second half defense secures win over Vikings

Rogers City's Taylor Fleming scores 20 points against Posen. (December 27, 2018)

ROGERS CITY, MIĀ — The Rogers City Hurons hosted the Posen Vikings for a girls varsity matchup just two days after Christmas, and both teams showed no signs of rust on defense. Many steals and blocks led to buckets keeping the game close at halftime, Posen with the 17-16 lead. Then, the Hurons put up 17 points in the third quarter and never looked back taking the 49-40 win.

The second half dominance by the Hurons was due to their improved full court press defense. In the first half, Posen was able to get a few points on inbound passes from Madison Menzel deep to a teammate on the other end of the floor. Rogers City made some adjustments at halftime, and that was the game changer. The Hurons’ press starts up front with 5’11” Taylor Fleming, who led Rogers City with 20 points. The senior was able to disrupt a few passes and cash in on the turnovers.

The Hurons take the floor again on January 4, 2019 at home against Onaway.
