Alpena Gymnastics and the APLEX host district competition

Alpena, Mich — Alpena Gymnastics has been actively fundraising to make improvements to their home at the APLEX. Their hard work paid off as the APLEX was selected to host an Athletic Amateur Union district championship.
Alpena Gymnastics head coach Gerri Samp said that she was happy to have a big competition back in Alpena. It also reminded her of the success that the high school had back in the 70s.
The district competition had four different events: floor exercise, uneven bars, balance beam, and vault. The gymnasts could earn up to 10 points per event and 40 in total. Alpena Gymnastics competed in eight different brackets of competition throughout the weekend.
All of the participants qualified for nationals after taking part in the competition which are held in Orlando during June.
