Warmer temperatures, bright skies on the way

The temperature forecast over the next few days shows highs ranging from the middle 70s to near 80 degrees.

High temperatures today reached a chilly 60 degrees in Alpena, while it’s getting warmer off to the west. Minneapolis had a high of 73 degrees, a sign of some warmer air expanding eastward. Temperatures locally will get warmer Friday through the weekend.

Tropical Storm Elsa is heading up the East Coast. Tropical Storm Warnings are posted from Wilmington, N.C. to Boston. Gusty winds, heavy rain and rough surf will affect coastal areas in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through Friday.

The track of Tropical Storm Elsa will bring the storm near major cities of the Northeast Friday, including New York and Boston. Then the storm will enter Canadian waters Friday night or early Saturday.

Friday: Mostly sunny. Predawn lows will cool to near 51 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach close to 75 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the 60s.

Saturday: Mostly sunny. Early-morning lows will drop to around 52 degrees. Afternoon highs will warm to about 78 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the lower 70s and 60s.

Sunday: Increasing clouds. Early-morning lows will be close to 54 degrees. Temperatures will rise to about 77 degrees in the afternoon. Evening temperatures will go from the lower 70s to middle 60s.
