Remains damp through early Thursday; Warm temperatures come back late-week

Rain is moving through our area, just north of a boundary dividing summer-like warmth from fall-like temperatures. Periods of rain will continue overnight, through Thursday morning.

Over the next several days, rain chances will be highest tonight until Thursday midday. Then rain chances will drop off Thursday afternoon/evening. Friday through the weekend appear completely dry.

High temperatures Wednesday afternoon reached only 59 degrees in Alpena. Compare that to Detroit where the temperature heated up to 88 degrees. The warmth continues to subside to the south. Temperature will remain cool Thursday with a light breeze out of the northeast.

Thursday: AM-midday chance of showers, then drying out. Temperatures will remain nearly steady predawn, close to 54 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to only about 64 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the upper 50s.

Friday: Mostly sunny, getting warmer. Early-morning temperatures will cool to around 53 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach close to 75 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the 60s.

Saturday: Bright start to the weekend. Early-morning lows will head down to about 52 degrees. Afternoon highs will warm to near 78 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the lower 70s and 60s.

Tropical Storm Elsa made landfall in western Florida early Wednesday. As the storm continues to move northward, Tropical Storm Warnings are now posted for coastal areas of Georgia and South Carolina.

The National Weather Service has also issued Tropical Storm Watches up the East Coast, from the North Carolina-South Carolina border to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Whether these watches get upgraded to warnings will depend on how the track and strength of Elsa play out.

Tropical Storm Elsa continues to progress north, heading through Georgia. It will continue moving up the eastern Seaboard and gradually weakening over the next 24 hours.
