A structure fire broke out last night at Speedy Blaze in Alpena.
The wood product manufacturing building is located at 307 South 3rd avenue.
The Alpena City Fire Department responded to reports of smoke coming from the building. There were no visible flames reported by crews, but they did report heavy smoke.
The building’s exterior doors limited access into the building which delayed entry into the building. Crews were able to enter eventually and locate the fire that crews quickly contained.
There was minimal structural damage to the building, but heavy smoke damage. The department removed approximately twelve to fourteen metal crates containing pieces of wood.
The department believes the cause of the fire was from the wood products being placed too close to the heat source, causing ignition of one of the crates. There were no injuries reported.
