Mid Michigan Medical Center among 26 hospitals collecting COVID-19 data
ALPENA, Mich. — Mid Michigan Medical Center – Alpena is among 26 Michigan hospitals that have teamed up with Blue Cross Blue Shield to collect clinical data on COVID-19 patients. The data collected will be used in an extensive registry that will provide insight into best practices in treating patients with the virus.
Dr. Amy McKenzie with Blue Cross Blue Shield says the initiative aims to identify factors associated with higher levels of critical COVID-19 outcomes.
“A certain hospital might have a couple cases, buy when you compile that data across a number of hospitals and then aggregate the data, you’re able to start seeing patterns around different things and you’re able to start drawing some conclusions,” she explained.
Titled MI-COVID-19, the comprehensive, multi-site registry will likely be one of the largest collections of COVID-19 patient data to date.
