Harrisville State Park Acquires Action Track Chair for People with Handicap and Mobility Issues

People with handicap and mobility issues near Harrisville have something special to look forward to this summer. “So, today what we’re looking at is our newly acquired action track chair. This was something new we have for the state park here in Harrisville. It’s a great addition to the park,” Unit Supervisor at Harrisville State Park, Eric Ostrander said.

This chair is a great opportunity for people with handicap and mobility issues to do some great rock hunting this summer. “And they can enjoy the whole park, everything from the campground to the trails and especially our beach,” said Ostrander. This is one more step toward freedom for people with handicap and/or mobility issues. “There are not a lot of state parks locally that have one of these chairs. So, it’s kind of a rare gem here for Northeast Michigan, which we’re proud of.”

The fundraising for this chair has been going on for a long time. “Donated mostly with funding from Kaylee’s Cure. So, that’s a nonprofit organization, they look to find ways to help people that have spinal cord injuries. And a gentleman by the name of David Hampstead helped get this going here at the park specifically. He kind of helped us get the process moving to make the park a location that would be requesting one of these.” Ostrander said.
