Dog Rescued from Devils Lake in Alpena Township
A dog is home safe after getting trapped in Devils Lake in Alpena Township on Monday night.
A group of hunters called for help after their dog got caught in a cattail marsh at about 6 p.m. There was concern not only for the dog’s safety but for the owners as well who may have attempted a self–rescue, putting their own lives in danger.
Three rescuers from the Alpena City Fire Department, wearing cold water rescue gear, were able to reach the dog and pull him out at around midnight. He was in the lake for about six hours but will recover.
The city was assisted by Michigan DNR conservation officers, Green Township Fire Department, Alpena Township Fire Department, and Alpena County central dispatch.
