Businesses Exceed Fundraising Goal for Alpena Fireworks

Fireworks are set to go off in Alpena next week after multiple downtown businesses and organizations chipped in to make it possible.

Rather than sell wristbands this year, the city fire department challenged those businesses to contribute at least $500 each to allow this year’s celebration. In total there was a total of 60 businesses that contributed.

Not only did they reach the $25,000 goal, but they exceeded it. “Many businesses worked with community members to include them,” said Adam Poll, president of the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce. “Others were able to get matches from their employees, things like that. So, it really was still a community drive as usual and we’re just glad the community helps us out and cares so much.”

Despite being on a Tuesday, the celebration will take place on the Fourth of July as it always has and can be viewed along the Lake Huron shoreline.
