Through grant money and legislation spearheaded by Sen. Jim Stamas, Alpena Public Schools has a new CTE facility for their students.

It will give their students a place to work on their trade skills and prepare for future jobs and careers. “I’m hoping in the future I can build my own house,” said Wyatt Smith, a junior at Alpena High School. “A lot people that I’m friends with are building. I’ve been building since when I could start walking. Me and my grandpa.”

Former Alpena student and current executive director of NC3, professionals advancing career and technical education, Roger Tadajewski is excited more resources will now be available for students looking to enter the field. “Alpena has always been a strong provider of this,” he said. “I’m a product of that, and it’s helped me in my career over the past 40 years and that’s all we have to do is make sure we help young people get a great start and help them move forward.”

The new facility comes as a shortage of trade skill workers affects Michigan and the country.
