Alpena residents prepare for Halloween with festive decorations

Halloween season is in full swing, and residents of Alpena are going all out with spooky and fun decorations on their houses.

Driving down Washington Avenue, you can see multiple houses who have decorated for the Halloween season, including this house with lots of big inflatables, a couple tombstones, and – luck permitting – a black cat named Binx. One house belongs to Brandon Irvin, who says the house is not yet a finished product. Irvin also says he loves having people check out the decorations. “I enjoy it, my wife enjoys it, and the kids like to come by here all the time and kind of scare each other, they just like coming by here and we like having them,” he said.

Farther down Washington Avenue is a house which belongs to Mary Christensen–Cooper, who says she loves seeing her kids get excited at all the extravagant lights. “So, we have four small children, and so we really like the first night when it gets dark, and we turn the lights on and bring the kids out, and they can see all the ways that we decorated, so that’s probably my favorite part, seeing the kids enjoy it,” she said.

Cooper says she moved to Alpena two years ago, and she enjoys having people drive down the busy street and look at their decorations.
