State school bus shortage amid start of school year

ALPENA, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Education says school bus drivers are still on the state’s critical shortage list of public school workers.

Bus drivers were originally added to that list in 2016; however, the pandemic has further impacted the shortage.

The department of education also cites lower wages and less retirement benefits as factors.
