5th Down: Week One
With the return of high school football, WBKB Sports travelled around the area to catch highlights from this week’s matchups.
The Alpena Wildcats kicked off their 2023-24 season with a thriller of a game against Flint Powers. Alpena pulled away with the close 34-33 win. The Wildcats head to Marquette on August 31 for a 7 p.m. kick off.
The Alcona Tigers paid a visit to Mio where they faced the Thunderbolts. Alcona came out on top with a 60-0 victory over Mio. The Tigers head to Atlanta to take on the Huskies next week, while the Thunderbolts host Hillman.
The Whittemore-Prescott Cardinals travelled to Hillman to open their season. The Cardinals defeated the Tigers by a final score of 42-0. While Hillman welcomes in Mio next Friday, the Cardinals visit Brethren for their week two matchup.
