Gaylord St. Mary ends Mio’s season at the regional final

Mesick, Mich. — The Mio Thunderbolts advanced to the regional final for the first time since 2001, they’re season goal. Mio Head Coach Christina Tappan was a senior on that 2001 team. The path to the regional final was tought. Mio topped Hale for back-to-back district championships, and then the Thunderbolts defeated Bellaire 33-31, the same team that knocked them out of playoffs in 2018.

Mio (12-10) faced the Gaylord St. Mary Snowbirds (21-2) on Wednesday. The Snowbirds took control early led by seniors Livee Jeffers who put up 18 points and Emma Cherwinski’s 12 points. Gaylord St. Mary took the early 35-16 lead at halftime and never looked back, winning 50-22.
