Warmer temperatures finally move in along with sunshine

High temperatures Tuesday reached 55 degrees in Alpena and Detroit. Areas west of Michigan rea getting warmer temperatures. Highs got up to 63 degrees in Minneapolis and 67 degrees in Bismarck, North Dakota. Those warmer temperatures will be heading our way midweek. The last time temperatures reached the 60s in Alpena happened back on May 2, that’s going to happen this week.

This should be the last of frost advisories and freeze warnings for a while — but we have those in our area overnight. A Frost Advisory is in effect for Alpena, Alcona and Iosco counties from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday. Temperatures for areas in the Frost Advisory will drop to about the freezing mark or just slightly above.

A Freeze Warning is in effect for Presque Isle, Montmorency, Oscoda and Ogemaw counties from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday. In these areas, temperatures will drop to the freezing mark or slightly below. Precautions should be taken to prevent damage to vegetation due to freezing temperatures.

A High pressure system over southern Minnesota will get closer to our area. This will bring sunny skies for Wednesday and the bright weather will continue Thursday. As this high pressure system slides to our east, warmer temperatures will build in.

Wednesday: Sunny with warmer temperatures by the afternoon. Predawn lows will drop to about 32 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will rise to the lower 50s. Afternoon highs will reach close to 61 degrees. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the 50s, slipping to the upper 40s late.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and the warmer temperatures continue. Early-morning lows will head down to around 36 degrees. Temperatures will climb to the middle 50s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to about 64 degrees. Evening temperatures will be largely in the 50s.

Friday: A mix of sun and clouds. Early-morning temperatures will begin near 39 degrees. Afternoon highs will climb to around 64 degrees. Evening temperatures will head to the 50s.
