Typical late-spring weekend, warmest Saturday

High temperatures reached the lower 70s today across Northeast Michigan, away from the shoreline. Temperatures got up to 72 degrees in Alpena; Saginaw, Michigan; and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Warm temperatures will continue Saturday.

High pressure anchored off to our south, over Indiana, is finally beginning to steer warm temperatures into our area. Winds around high pressure circulate clockwise, so winds will be flowing out of the south. As warm air moves into a place that previously had cooler temperatures, air rises because warmer air is more buoyant which results in pockets of showers. Locally, we will have a chance of isolated showers early Sunday.

Saturday will start with sunshine, then cloud cover will increase during the afternoon and evening. Early Sunday, a few isolated showers will be possible. That chance of showers should taper by midday. Then the rest of Sunday will be dry with breaks of sun.

Saturday: Increasing clouds late-day. Predawn temperatures will head down to around 41 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will rise to the lower 60s. Afternoon highs will get up to about 69 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the middle 60s to the middle 50s.

Sunday: Spotty showers possible early, then drying out. Early-morning temperatures will begin close to 44 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach near 64 degrees — that’s about for mid-May. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the 50s.

Monday: Partly cloudy and warm. Early-morning temperatures will start off around 44 degrees. Temperatures will get up to the lower 60s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will be close to 70 degrees. Evening temperatures will go from the middle 60s to the middle 50s.
