Thunder Bay Arts Council Decorates Trees at Besser Museum

As the Christmas season approaches, Besser Museum is getting into the festivities with the help of the Thunder Bay Arts Council.

They spent Monday evening decorating the different trees for the newest exhibit and the Season of Light Museum Members Only Gala that starts on Sunday.

“It’s just been a great contribution to community effort,” said Thunder Bay Arts Council second vice president Tim Kuehnlein. “It’s not only a celebration of the holiday, but community engagement and arts and culture. There’s just a whole slew of different styles of trees representing all parts of the world.”

The Thunder Bay Arts Council has helped Besser set this exhibit up for the last five years. This year, the trees represent a different country and the culture and traditions they celebrate during Christmas.

“They’ve always tried to have a variety of representation of the cultures that celebrate this holiday,” said Kuehnlein.

With this new exhibit, people will get to enjoy beautifully decorated trees while also learning about how other countries around the world celebrate Christmas.

“There are quite a few not only styles of tree, but the organizations, the sheer number of organizations that are hosting the trees,” said Kuehnlein.

The Arts Council helping Besser Museum set up is another example of the members of the Alpena community coming together.

“What the museum is doing to celebrate and get people to come out and enjoy the interaction by hosting the event, it really just enhances the experience for everybody that no one organization can necessarily pull off,” said Kuehnlein.

The Member’s Only Gala begins on Sunday, November 19th at 6pm and then opens to the public on Monday, November 20th.
