Technician sentenced for falsifying breathalyzer instrument records

ALPENA, Mich. — A technician was recently sentenced to jail time and probation for forging records of breathalyzer instruments.

59-year-old David John of Kalamazoo falsified three certifications for the breathalyzer instrument in the Alpena County Sheriff’s Department.  John submitted them as accurate and complete on the Alpena County breath alcohol test instrument also known as a DataMaster DMT.

According to Attorney General, Dana Nessel, John’s crime not only violated his contractual agreement, but his actions compromised the integrity of the criminal justice system.

John was sentenced Monday to 36 months probation with the first 9 months to be served in the Kalamazoo county jail.
