Team of the Week: Alpena Girls Varsity Golf

ALPENA, MI – After a long season that kicked off in August, WBKB Sports is featuring the Alpena Girls Varsity Golf team to highlight their preparation for their upcoming appearance at the MHSAA Regional.

The Wildcats are hoping for a strong performance at the MHSAA Regional that takes place in Midland at the Currie Municipal Course. Head Coach, Tate Skiba, is hoping his player’s familiarity with the layout of the course will prove beneficial. “We’ve played this course already once this year,” he said. “My goal is that we walk away with some improvement from the first time that we saw that course.”

Although golf is a team sport, the beauty of the game is that each player can keep a personal goal in mind to help further their team’s overall result. Junior, Sydney Silver, has several ideas on her mind on how to help the Wildcats. “I want to see improvement,” she said. “I don’t think any of us have broken 100 yet.”

As Alpena continues preparing for the Regional, the Wildcats remained focused on the task ahead. Freshman, Jami Richards, established her own reasons for competing this coming week. “My own personal goal for Regionals is to honestly do my best,” she said. “The team goal is to know we enjoyed the day.”

The Alpena Girls Varsity Golf team is scheduled to compete at the MHSAA Regional on October 3.
