Heading into another Friday night full of high school football games, WBKB Sports is travelling around the area to highlight this week’s best match-up. The Au Gres-Sims Wolverines host the Mio Thunderbolts for our Game of the Week.

With a 3-2 record, the Mio Thunderbolts are shooting for a close game after last season’s 62-54 loss to the Wolverines. Head Coach, Calvin Fox, expects his team to leave it all out on the field. “We lost the game by eight last year,” he said. “It could’ve went a bunch of different directions.”

The Mio players understand that Friday’s match-up will be quite the battle. Senior running back, Gage Long, expects the Wolverines’ best. “They’re tough,” he said. “I know it’s not going to be easy.”

The Wolverines currently have a 4-1 record. Head Coach, Brian Sanchez, is focused on improving the small details ahead of Friday night. “We’ve put forth a lot of effort this year to strengthen the defense,” he said. “That’s been our strong suit this year.”

As the Au Gres players adjust to their new game plan, players like senior running back, Kegan Bender, understand why practices have to change. “They run a little bit different than everybody else,” he said.

The Mio Thunderbolts head to Au Gres-Sims to take on the Wolverines on Friday at 7 p.m.
