Stay safe this winter when participating in sesonal activities

ALPENA, Mich. – Where there’s snow and ice you will find Michiganders participating in various winter activities. With winter officially in full swing, many residents are starting to ice fish, and snowmobile among other activities. However, we need to remember to stay safe.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources wants to remind residents of a few tips to stay safe this winter.

-Wear light layers that can be easily added or removed; it is possible to overheat even during the winter.
-Carry the right equipment like flashlights, rope and ice picks or claws.
-Make sure to stay hydrated and have a buddy with you.
-Inform others of where you’ll be and have some form of communication that receives service in remote areas.

The DNR also wants to stress to residents if they feel sick to please stay home.
