Rogers City Hurons Set Clean Slate for 2023-24 Football Season

ROGERS CITY, MI – The leaders of the North Star League Big Dipper division are ready for a fresh start. The Rogers City Hurons are gearing up for the 2023-24 high school football season with a core of young players who are ready to prove themselves.

The Hurons finished the 2022-23 season with a 9-1 record and the top spot in the Big Dipper division. The program suffered their only loss in playoffs. Heading into the upcoming season, the Hurons believe remaining stagnant could be deadly. Head Coach Jesse Fenstermaker knows his young roster has what it takes to compete just as hard as the previous year. “I’m always trying to find new ways to get them motivated,” he said. “They’re just as hungry as last year’s team.”

The Hurons enter the 2023-24 season with very different circumstances. The team graduated around 12 players last year and fresh faces have moved in. That means it’s an opportunity for seniors to take the team’s younger players under their wings. Senior running back Austin Fenstermaker is looking forward to the chance of taking on a leadership role. “I kind of hold them accountable,” he said. “If I’m not going to do that, then what kind of leader am I?”

The Hurons appreciate the outcome of last season. The team makes it a point to not expect the same results without the hard work. “Last year means everything to the seniors that finished up,” Coach Fenstermaker said. “The seniors this year want to do better than the seniors last year.”

Rogers City starts their 2023-24 season on the road. They visit the Charlton Heston Patriots on August 25 at 7 p.m.
