Punxsutawney Phil Predicts an Early Spring

The crowd roared this morning as America’s favorite Groundhog made his weather prediction for spring, but we couldn’t help but wonder, what does that mean for us here in Northeast Michigan? Punxsutawney Phil has been making weather predictions out of Pennsylvania for over one hundred years, but today, we spoke to Northeast Michigan’s favorite meteorologist, Ryan Crump, to see his thoughts, “If it does come true, I’ll be looking forward to seventy degree temperatures in March and April, but, I know that’s not going to happen here of course with the climate. We might see some forties and fifties, so that’d be good enough for me.”

While thoughts of spring flowers and greenery is exciting, Crump reminds us that we must take Punxsutawney’s findings with a grain of salt as weather changes over time. But as of now, with snow melting, warmer temperatures are likely. “Spring is going to be definitely on the way,” said Crump, “it shows that according to the temperature trends we’ve been seeing the last couple of days here and it looks like that’s going to continue going forward.”

As we go through February, many will notice the days getting longer and to see more sunshine, “That’s the one thing I’m looking forward is the sun, it just brightens my mood and warms up the temperature throughout the day,” said Crump.

Be sure to stay updated with Ryan’s weather forecasts to see if spring could truly be on its way.
