Public tours new jail
ALPENA, Mich. — The public seemed to enjoy this weekend’s tours of the new Alpena County jail.
Sheriff’s Department officers led visitors throughout the new facilities to give taxpayers a look at where their funding went. They explained how they process and manage inmates, and how the various parts of the facility allow them to better do their job.
Officers showed off nearly everything, from the cells to the offices.
Sheriff Kieliszewski said the public provided encouraging feedback.
“What we’re hearing quite a bit is that it looks bigger on the inside than it does on the outside. [We got] lots of positive comments about the new technology we have. And the kitchen — There were lots of positive comments about that.”
Kieliszewski said he expects to move the inmates some time in August.
