MidMichigan plans to open urgent care clinic

ALPENA, Mich. – MidMichigan Medical Center plans to open an urgent care clinic in the Alpena area.

The facility would see patients with urgent and non-emergent needs. Right now, a specific location is being considered, but hasn’t been confirmed.

Hospital officials said they are trying to manage capacity at the main hospital.

Officials said the new facility will benefit the area.

“One of them is kind of a quicker access to care with after hours and on weekends you don’t currently have easily,” said MidMichigan Regional President Chuck Sherwin. “Then the other benefit is that then the emergency department is  available for true emergencies.”

Sherwin said although plans are in the works, his first priority is to complete the new hospital towers which are scheduled to be completed next year.

The new urgent care facility will also offer occupational services like drug testing for employers.
