Local school district approves pay increase for substitutes
ALPENA, Mich.— The Alpena Montmorency Alcona Educational Service District approved a pay raise for substitute teachers effective this coming school year. Certified substitutes will now receive a stipend of $65 for a half day of work.
For a full day, substitutes will receive $130. Substitutes are responsible for maintaining the classroom, assisting students, lesson planning and transporting students who have mobility challenges.
The pay increase will not only support substitutes working during the pandemic, but will recognize their passion to help vulnerable students.
