Local Fire Departments Train with Task Force Tips

The Alpena Township Fire Department hosted an exercise on Wednesday that showed about six other departments how to handle some of the latest technology.

A practice vehicle that erupts into flames was provided by the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center. “They set it up for us. Everybody got to do cycles on the car fire and get familiar with that action,” said Mark Hansen, Alpena Township fire chief.
We had another vendor come that had other nozzles for us to try.”

That vendor was Task Force tips, represented by Midwest Regional Manager Kevin Briggs. “We also flowed one of our ground monitors today called our blitz fire where we can get up to 500 gallons a minute at a low attack angle,” he said. “So, if they got that fire that’s a mall or a condo complex, something like that, they’re able to fight it with a quick attack tool that way.”

The training these firefighters received will keep them ready for a number of emergencies they need to be able to handle. “You just never know what the situation is going to be,” Hansen said. “Car fires don’t happen all the time but to have this simulator to help us train, be better prepared, it really helps.”

Task Force Tips helps give this kind of training to departments around the country and distributes equipment worldwide.
