L&N/Greenway Disposal destroyed in Monday night structure fire
ALPENA, Mich. – Fire crews were called to a heavily involved structure fire at L&N Greenway Disposal on north US–23.
Drivers passing by the building reported the fire.
Alpena Fire said no one was injured during the incident.
The area was closed for several hours while fire crews worked to put out the fire.
Alpena City Fire was assisted by several other first responders because of size of the fire.
“This was a team effort, between the city and other departments,” said Alpena City Fire Department Risk Reduction Officer Andy Marceau. “We also had Jerome’s Towing, George’s Towing and McCarthy Excavating and the Red Cross. Fires happen, and when they happen like this in Alpena, people just seem to want to come out to help and it’s great to have that support.”
Firefighters and L&N staff worked together to save a number of trucks and equipment near the building.
The structure is a total loss.
