Hillman’s Trenton Taratuta Named to All-State Team

HILLMAN, MI-  After leading the Hillman Tigers to a 22-5 record and a regional championship, star Point Guard Trenton Taratuta has been named to the division four All-State basketball team for the second consecutive year.

After a stellar sophomore season, Taratuta raised the bar as a junior.  He averaged over 27 points a game and twice tied the Hillman single game scoring record with 41 points.  His finest performance came in the District championship as he scored 37, including 24 in the second half as Hillman captured their second straight district championship.

Taratuta finished his junior season with 1,612 career points which leaves him 68 points away from breaking the school scoring record currently held by Mason VanPamel.  In addition to upping his scoring he filled the stat sheet in every category.  With averages of 9.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 5 steals a game, there was not a more complete player in the area, if not all of division four.

In addition to having his best season as an individual, it was the team success that defined Taratuta and the Tigers.  Hillman went undefeated in North Star League play, won a district title, won a regional title and came mere minutes away from a trip to Breslin Center. Hillman fell to Frankfort in the state quarterfinals.

While the Tigers graduate the rest of their starting lineup, Taratuta will be back for his senior year.  The sky is the limit for the final act that he may put on as a Tiger.
