Alpena’s Downtown Life Ramps Up With Warm Weather on the Way

As the weather continues to warm up, downtown Alpena should once again see life heading into the spring and summer.

More events will begin, flowers and other wildlife will return, and some seasonal businesses will get back into the swing of things. Downtown Scoops is one of those businesses.

“Once we start getting a little bit warmer, downtown seems to really come back to life,” said Downtown Scoops Owner Aaron Buza. “You’re seeing people walk around all over the place, tourists are starting to come back, the robins are here, so you’re really starting to see people interact with downtown much greater than they do in the winter.”

Downtown Scoops usually closes for the season in November or December, but when the weather warms up in April, they’re ready to go once again.

“Downtown there’s definitely things happening in the winter, but for us, we look forward to just getting back out and seeing people and watching downtown really become vibrant again,” said Buza. “All the tables start to come out, people are eating outside, they’re walking, they’re just experiencing everything that can take place in downtown Alpena, and it’s kind of a hidden gem.”

At the beginning of spring, there’s something special about downtown Alpena, beyond just the downtown. There’s something for everybody.

“You’ve got Mother Nature, you’ve got a little bit of a really great restaurant scene, you’ve got good shopping, whatever you want to do, you can do it,” said Buza.

Being in a local and seasonal business, Buza is excited to open again and see customers all around downtown.
