Heat inland, relief at the lakeshore Wednesday

Temperatures Tuesday heated up to 86 degrees in Alpena, 89 degrees in Rogers City and 85 degrees in Osocda. Dew points in the upper 60s to near 70 made it feel very humid. Some of this heat will reduce for Wednesday and the rest of the week. Light winds out of the east, off of Lake Huron, will bring cooler temperatures to places along lakeshore.

Showers were very limited over Northern Lower Michigan. Strong storms developed over the Upper Peninsula but will not reach our area. Only small possibilities for stray showers remain in the forecast tonight and into Wednesday.

A solar eclipse will happen early Thursday, when the moon casts a shadow over the Earth and blocks sunlight. Around Alpena, 77 percent of the sun will appear blocked by the moon early Thursday. The maximum stage of the eclipse will take place at 5:51 a.m. Viewing conditions look good, partly cloudy with temperatures close to 58 degrees.

Wednesday morning: Partly cloudy. Predawn temperatures will be near 60 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the lower 70s during the late-morning.

Wednesday afternoon: Possibly a spotty shower well west of Alpena. Highs will get up to about 78 degrees in Alpena (away from the immediate shoreline). Near the shoreline, temperatures will be cooler with highs close to 70 degrees. Afternoon temperatures will be warmest close to M-33 where highs will reach the middle 80s.

Wednesday evening: Partly cloudy. Temperatures will head into the lower 70s and 60s.

Thursday: Partly cloudy. Predawn temperatures will cool to around 55 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will climb to near 70 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach close to 79 degrees. Evening temperatures will drop from the middle 70s to middle 60s.

Friday: Spotty showers or thunderstorms in the morning-afternoon. Early-morning low temperatures will be close to 57 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to about 77 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the 60s.
