Feeling comfortable with some sun Thursday

High Temperatures Thursday got up to 79 degrees in Alpena, 77 degrees in Oscoda, Michigan and warmer to the west with a high of 85 degrees in Mio, Michigan. Light winds out of the east will maintain a similar temperature setup for Thursday. Highs will be in the 70s closer to the lakeshore, 80s farther west.

We’ll see dry weather Thursday with partly cloudy skies. Then a storm system currently affecting Minnesota will move into Northeast Michigan Friday, providing a chance of showers and thunderstorms during the morning-afternoon. A second storm system currently over Montana and Idaho will move in for Saturday, giving another chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Thursday’s chances of rain appear very low. The chance of showers or thunderstorms will increase Friday. We’re expecting a gap of dry weather Friday evening to early Saturday. Then another chance of showers/thunderstorms will move in Saturday midday.

A solar eclipse will happen early Thursday because of the position of the moon, between the Earth and the sun. Around Alpena, 77 percent of the sun will appear blocked by the moon. The maximum stage of the eclipse will take place Thursday at 5:51 a.m. The weather forecast for that time has partly cloudy skies with temperatures close to 58 degrees, likely good viewing conditions.

Thursday: Partly cloudy and comfortable. Early-morning lows will drop to about 55 degrees. Temperatures will rise to almost 70 degrees during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will range from middle 70s for eastern areas to middle 80s for western areas, close to 79 degrees for Alpena. Evening temperatures will cool from the middle 70s to middle 60s.

Friday: Spotty showers/thunderstorms possible in the morning-afternoon. Predawn lows will be close to 56 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach about 78 degrees. Evening temperatures will be head into the 60s.

Saturday: Scattered showers with a risk of thunderstorms beginning midday. Early-morning temperatures will begin with lows near 56 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to around 78 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the lower 70s, then 60s.
